While Karthik Kumar studied engineering, Sunil Vishnu K. went the commerce route and the duo ended up at MICA with dreams of management careers. Somewhere along the way, however, the two decided their destiny lay in theatre and started Evam, a professional entertainment company in Chennai.
Five years and 220 shows later, the two have successful careers in the field, working as actors and writers besides building their dream of a professional theatre outfit. Evam entertainment promotes theatre in the city of Chennai. After their MBA course Karthik and Sunil worked for a couple of years and saved substantially before they took the plunge. And forsaking a secure, cushy job to realize a dream is no ordinary decision. Sunil is from Bhopal. His parents live there. He has worked all over the country and now chosen Chennai for a lucrative livelihood. The two young men believe that, if things work out, they will be successful pioneers in professional entertainment. Theatre is not a new field for these two young men, who had formed a group (Sankalp) when they were students at the Mudra Institute of Communications (Mica). They choose Chennai as their base to launch this business centre as a study of the market revealed the lack of enough theatre activity there as compared to Mumbai or Bangalore. Hence, the two believe that the city offers untapped potential. Evam today is a strong team of more than 35 professionals and youngsters. In five years, our audience has grown 5 fold and now stands at more than 7000 individuals for each of our plays. They have also performed across Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kharagpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Pondicherry, Ahmedabad, Kolkatta and Coimbatore. Apart from performing at festivals, Evam also manages the only English international theatre festival in Chennai pioneered by the Hindu. |

Im a big big big fan of evam.I just love sunil,kk,tmk and the entire group.I try not to miss any of the shows staged @ rangashakara. I try to pull in a lot of friends along with me for the show as well.I loved the play "importance of being earnest" on fri as well.But yesterday ,u guys just disappointed me.Watchnig the play "always look on the brighter side of life" was really a sad day for me with the evam .We normally walk in to an "evam" show blindly .I dont read reviews , cos i know u guys simply rock. Hope i dont get disappointed the next time..
